Year of the Tiger

Client: Mutoumao Studio

Illustration: Zengafan

A series of illustrations designed for the Year of the Tiger-themed gift box. The gift box contains a set of Spring Festival couplets, red envelopes, and a tiger puppet. A series of interesting designs combined with traditional Chinese elements.

Spring Festival (also known as Chinese New Year) is China’s most important and busiest holiday. People gather around to set off fireworks, paste Spring Festival couplets above the door, watch dancing dragons and lions, and families will hand red lanterns from the ceiling. One of the most important traditions is for the elders to give red envelopes to the younger generation.

Creative Process

Welcome to Playgrounds! (More Illustrations)

This was one of my favorite projects. I had a lot of fun. I mixed different creative ideas with tiger themes to build a vibrant and playful world, filled with holiday spirit and joy.

Couplets

Families in China decorate their front doors with poetic couplets of calligraphy written in fragrant Indian ink.Expressing the feeling of life’s renewal and the return of spring. Nowadays it is also very popular to use gold ink and different designs for couplets.

Package

The illustrations were applied to gift box and other New Year items, including red envelopes, “Fu” stickers, couplets, and horizontal “Fu” banners.
